Mission
The mission of the Planning and Zoning Department is to effectively manage community change in the short and long term with regards to land use, transportation, historic preservation and overall development, in order to create a sustainable, livable, and economically successful future for the citizens of Catoosa County.
The means by which the Planning and Zoning Department is to effectively manage community change is the comprehensive review and approval of all developments within unincorporated areas of Catoosa County. In addition, the Planning and Zoning Department interprets and implements the goals and objectives of the Catoosa County Comprehensive Plan and interprets the regulations and requirements of the Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances.
Responsibilities
The Code Enforcement Office is responsible for enforcing the Codes and Ordinances of the County. Code Enforcement is required to assist other Departments of the County in the prosecution of cases such as violations of the zoning codes, nuisance ordinances, water ordinances and other violations. Cases made by the Code Enforcement Department are prosecuted in the Magistrate Court of Catoosa County. If found guilty of a County violation, a person can be sentenced by the Magistrate to pay a fine up to $1000 per violation per day and serve up to sixty days in the County Jail. Usually the Code Enforcement Department will issue a warning notice to violators giving the violator an opportunity to comply within a set time limit. The summons to court is normally the last resort.
