On Tuesday, April 10, 2018, Deputy Chief Jim White joined 79 fellow chiefs to receive this certification in Georgia. The Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs (GAFC) awarded the certificate during the 2018 Spring Executive Training Session held in Savannah. This program is divided into three types of certifications: Georgia Volunteer Fire Chief Certification, Georgia Chief Fire Officer Certification, and Georgia Fire Chief Certification. “We developed this program to ensure that the fire departments in the state of Georgia have qualified, credentialed, and professional leaders and managers overseeing their departments and personnel.” Said President of GAFC Dwayne Jamison. Certification applicants self-apply and must meet four pre-requisites including holding a Georgia Firefighters Standards and Training Council (GFSTC) State Certification in at least one of the current Fire Service Certifications and serving as a minimum of a Battalion Chief or Division Supervisor. A point system reflective of their years of service, higher education achievement, level of fire officer certifications, recognition for additional credentials, and the completion of the Chief Fire Officer Level 8-hour classes was used to assess the applicants. Dating back to 1952 and based in GMA’s Atlanta office, GAFC works to advance fire services in Georgia and represents more than 800 Chief Fire Officers statewide.

Learn to be a lifesaver! The Catoosa County Fire Department is now offering CPR and Fire Extinguisher classes to the general public. Participants will receive hands on training regarding the latest techniques in CPR and will learn how to properly use a fire extinguisher. CPR classes follow the American Heart Association’s CPR program and all participants will receive a certification card upon completion of the program. There will be a small fee for CPR classes; fire extinguisher classes are free.
