Job Summary: This position is responsible for assisting with the maintenance and repair of county roadways and related infrastructure.
Job Duties
• Uses hand tools, cleans, sweeps, and performs basic maintenance tasks (e.g. Cleans, oils, fuels, and greases equipment, etc.)
• Performs a variety of horticultural task (e.g. mowing, mulching, weed whacking, tree trimming, etc.)
• Picks up and delivers mail, supplies, and equipment
• Locates and removes refuse from County property or County Right-of-Way
• Operates a variety of small and medium motor vehicles and equipment (e.g. pickup truck, sweeper, tractor, bobcat, chipper, packer, etc.)
• Assists higher level maintenance staff at job sites (e.g. shoveling, digging, loading, and unloading material, etc.)
• Adjust work assignments and schedules in the event of an emergency to participate in emergency preparedness, response, and recovery activities as assigned
• Depending on assignment may maintain required emergency management training, licensure and/or certification
• Maintains regular attendance and punctuality
Education and Experience
• High School diploma or equivalent
• At least two years working experience in operation of small machinery such as mowers and/or construction site preparation
• Valid driver’s license in state of residency
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Proper use, handling, and care of small tools and equipment used for horticulture, building maintenance, and road and right-of-way maintenance, etc.
• Materials, methods, and the tools involved in the road construction and maintenance. Good communication skills
• Applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations, codes, and/or statutes
• Lifting heavy objects
• Operating hand tools and non-complex motorized equipment
• Driving light duty pickup truck and operating small to medium equipment
• Work effectively in all weather conditions
• Able to work in a teamwork environment
